LITTLE ADVENTURES
"Learning About Character"
February 2016
Little Adventures 4k class spent a week learning about Character Education. The kids started the week learning about 6 of the Character Ed traits and then learned ways they could use those traits in the classroom and the community. To give them an example of how we could be positive role models in the community we had them help make blankets that were donated to Project Linus and also given to babies in our daycare center. They also had the opportunity to volunteer around the daycare. Ways they volunteered were washing chairs and walls, playing with babies, picking up toys and cutting out hearts for an art project. The kids were so happy to be helping others and want to do it again!

"What Would Freddy Falcon Do?"
The RF4C class at the UWRF CHILD Center focuses on social/emotional development and character education in a variety of ways. As is with all of the RF4C sites, our program is play based, which gives each child the opportunity to socialize and to learn crucial skills such as negotiation and compromise through daily interactions. We use our solution tool kits and picture cards to help give us visual reminders of different strategies for solving social problems.
We also have a set of expectations in our classroom called "What Would Freddy Falcon Do?" which is based upon the university's mascot. Our expectations are our classroom rules and we focus on how our interactions tie into these guidelines and use them to create a positive and cohesive classroom community. We also have "Freddy Falcon Fridays" as a part of our planned curriculum, where we use books, songs, games and other fun activities to explore the Freddy Falcon expectations and we will often use this time to introduce new feelings concepts. We then post our Feeling Word of the Week on our library wall along with pictures that connect to the concept.

RF4C MISSES YOU
Annette Blanchette's 40 year history as The Story Lady started at The University Preschool and grew to include St. Bridget Parish School, Jacob's Ladder Preschool at Ezekiel Lutheran Church, Kathy's Kinder Cottage, Wellhaven Senior Apartments, the Lutheran Home, Kinnickinnic Long-Term Care, and others. She brought books, little gifts, puppets, and treats and always wore seasonal costumes or clothing to make story time special for her reading audiences. She will be missed.
